Adriatic Sea Cruising (Kiet Le)

First Stop: Messina, Italy 

Mount Etna, crater Silvestri 
After 2 days from Barcelona on board of the ship Princendam of Holland America, Instead of Lipari (as schedule) our first port was Messina in the Sicily region of Italy. Messina may have been the harbor at which the Black Death entered Europe is estimated to have killed 30-60% of Europe's total population. This city also suffered many earthquakes and associated tsunamis.
We visited the crater Silvestri of Mount Etna, an active vocano between the cities of Messina and Catania, about two hours inland.
